The New York City Ballet performs eight blocks from where I am writing this.
What happens on that stage — the particular combination of discipline and release that produces something that looks effortless and costs everything — is not unrelated to what I am trying to make at Whisper Bloom NYC. Objects that carry the evidence of their own making. That do not pretend the work was easy.
Ballet Réverence casts ballerina silhouettes across the walls of a room using nothing but the heat of a single candle. The figures rotate slowly, continuously — the same movement, repeated, the way practice is repeated, the way anything worth doing is repeated until it becomes something else entirely.
There is a reason the réverence — the bow at the end of a performance — is the word chosen for this object. Not the leap. Not the turn. The bow. The moment after the effort, when the dancer acknowledges the audience and the audience acknowledges what they witnessed.
This is that moment. The end of a long day. The room is quiet. The shadows are moving.
You have done enough today.
This is the bow.
Q: Can the ballerina carousel be displayed without lighting it?
A: Yes — it functions as a standalone art object unlit.
Q: Is this designed for children?
A: No — crafted for adult women; open flame requires adult supervision.
Q: Will the gold finish tarnish over time?
A: No — anti-oxidation coating ensures lasting color.

I was worried the cloche would make it feel fussy to use, but taking it off before lighting takes two seconds. I actually like that little step now.
different from what I imagined
I wouldn’t buy this as my everyday candle, but for something I keep out in the room or give as a gift, the price makes more sense to me.
Definitely a splurge, but it feels more like buying something for the room than buying a candle I’ll throw away later.
I like the little ritual of taking the glass dome off before lighting it and putting it beside the candle. It sounds silly, but it makes lighting it feel more intentional.
I love the look of the cloche, although I do wish the scent were a little stronger. I’d still buy it again because I use it mostly in a smaller room.
What surprised me most is that I can still smell it in the room for a while after I blow it out. It’s much softer at that point, but it lingers.
