How It Works
The carousel contains no motor or battery. Warm air rising from the lit candle reaches the fan top and turns it, rotating the hanging charms and their shadows. Rotation can vary with flame height and surrounding air movement.
How to Use & Care
- Place the base on a flat, stable, level, heat-resistant indoor surface, away from curtains, paper, fabric, and other flammable materials.
- Connect the support rod to the magnetic base/chassis.
- Remove any protective film from the fan blades, attach the hanging charms, and place the fan top on the center of the support rod so it can turn freely.
- Place the included candle at the center of the base directly beneath the fan top.
- Before lighting, remove the glass cloche and trim the wick to 1/4 inch.
- Before lighting, confirm that the flame has clear space and cannot contact the rod, fan, charms, or other carousel parts.
- Use in a ventilated area away from strong drafts, open windows, fans, and air-conditioning vents.
- Never leave the burning candle unattended. Keep away from children and pets.
- Do not touch or stop the rotating fan while the candle is lit. Extinguish the candle if the flame becomes too high or flickers excessively.
- After extinguishing, allow the candle and all carousel parts to cool completely before touching, moving, or disassembling the set.
- Never burn under the glass cloche. Replace it only after the candle is extinguished and fully cooled.
Candle scent: The included candle scent is selected at random from available Whisper Bloom scents and may differ from the scent shown in product imagery. Specific fragrance requests are not guaranteed.
The Story
No batteries. No electricity. No mechanism is more complex than heat rising, as it has always risen, turning the world above it as it goes.
L'Ascension rotates on the thermal current created by the flame of its paired Whisper Bloom candle. The hot air balloon silhouettes move across your walls in real time — slowly, continuously, the way things move when they are not being forced.
There is something worth sitting with in that.
The carousel does not announce itself. It begins moving when the candle is lit and continues for as long as the flame holds. The shadows it casts are not decorative in the way that word is usually meant — decorative as in pleasant, as in background. They are present. They change the room's quality.
A Manhattan apartment at 10 pm with L'Ascension turning on the dresser is a different room than it was at 9 pm. The light is the same. The walls are the same. Something in the atmosphere has shifted.
This is what the object does. Not inspiration. Not metaphor.
Just light, heat, movement, and the particular quality of stillness that arrives when something in your environment is doing something beautiful and asking nothing of you in return.

It feels giftable before you even get to the candle. I ordered one for a friend and ended up coming back for one for myself.
My friend asked about it before I even lit it. She thought the cloche was some kind of decorative piece, which made me laugh because that was part of why I bought it.
I originally bought it for the living room, but it ended up becoming my bedroom candle. I light it while I’m getting ready for bed and now I associate the scent with winding down.
It ended up on the little table next to my reading chair and now that corner feels strangely incomplete when I move it somewhere else.
I like the little ritual of taking the glass dome off before lighting it and putting it beside the candle. It sounds silly, but it makes lighting it feel more intentional.
